New Orangery at The Gibbon Bridge Hotel
17th May 2010 – This week sees the unveiling of The Gibbon Bridge Hotel's new Victorian-styled Orangery, a £250,000 investment to the hotel and labour of love by proprietor, Janet Simpson and The Gibbon Bridge team.
Featuring large glass doors opening onto a spacious patio and the hotel's award-winning gardens, the room’s modern and minimalist design is opulent and stylish. The defining feature of the Orangery is the six, reclaimed cast iron Victorian pillars, which Janet rescued from Preston Public Hall before it was demolished in 1989. Janet had been waiting for the ideal hotel project in which to incorporate them, having fond memories of the Hall, attending dances and seeing Vera Lynn perform.
A glass roof floods the space with natural daylight and antique rugs, limestone flooring, Vincent Sheppard contemporary furniture and a white baby Grand Piano complete the aesthetic.
Janet drew inspiration from both home – Kensington Palace and Kew Gardens – and abroad in conceptualising the latest addition to The Gibbon Bridge Hotel. Most recently on a trip to South Africa, Janet discovered the talents of master glass blower, David Reade. Captivated by David’s art, Janet ordered 12-piece series of ornaments, vases and plates – depicting the desert and mountain landscapes of South Africa – for display in the new Orangery.
Multi-functional, The Orangery can be used as an indoor venue for civil wedding ceremonies, to complement the existing outdoor bandstand, as wells as for breakfasts, afternoon teas and as a luxurious private dining setting.

The official opening was attended by local dignitaries and local businesses, Lord and Lady Shuttleworth officially opened The Orangery. The event was also in support of the Community Foundation for Lancashire and the launch of Lancashire 100 Club. Champagne and afternoon tea was served.
