Special Bulletin from Visit Britain :

Prime Minister launches partnership between VisitBritain and travel and tourism industry

As you know, last August the Prime Minister gave a speech in which he stated his Government’s view that tourism was one of the best and fastest ways of generating the jobs the country needed.

Earlier today he launched a partnership between VisitBritain and the travel and tourism sector at an event at Downing Street. VisitBritain is leading this new partnership. It forms the basis of our new global marketing programme in which we are taking advantage of the unique opportunities afforded by the Royal Wedding, the Diamond Jubilee and hosting the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

With match funding, we will make up a marketing fund of £100 million, across four years. The four-year marketing programme aims to enhance the UK’s position as one of the world’s leading destinations for international tourism. We intend to deliver four million extra visitors; £2 billion extra spent here by visitors; and 50,000 new jobs.

This is a big collective effort by the travel and tourism sector. The private sector is matching the Government’s commitment with its own. We have so far been joined by a core of founding partners: British Airways, Radisson Edwardian Hotels, P&O, DFDS and lastminute.com.

We are talking with many other companies, and want them to come on board too. True to our remit this is about marketing Britain as a whole, and we will be working with partners from across the country to ensure that all regions and businesses of all sizes are able to participate in and benefit from the campaign. More details will be available later this month.

In the meantime if you would like to get involved in the first instance, please contact our partnerships team by emailing: partnerships@visitbritain.org
