Heading Towards a Million
Wednesday, 12th October 2011
Over the last 6 months visitlancashire.com has received a record number of visitors and is well on the way to receive a million unique visitors over the year! On average the site receives 87,000 unique visitors per month, which is a healthy increase of 34% year on year. In the last 3 months the average is just under 97,000 unique visitors per month, with August 2011 being our record month as the site received over 112,000 unique visitors!
The most popular sections on visitlancashire.com tend to be What’s On, Family Days Out, Things to Do and Special Offers pages. We update the site daily; optimising the content to encourage more visitors and increasing visitlancashire.com’s success. You will find visitlancashire featured in the top 5 on many relevant Google searches – in fact, over 74% of overall traffic comes directly from Google.
To boost the site we believe it is important to have a popular profile via social media channels – such as Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and Flickr. The social sites give us the opportunity to talk to a wider audience, build up conversations and relationships with both visitors and businesses and spread our messages even further.
We regularly send out e-newsletters to our visitor database which currently stands at over 40,000 consumers and growing. The e-newsletters are linked to marketing campaigns which Lancashire tourism businesses can buy into and be a part of. The e-newsletters act as a signpost to the site where the visitors can find lots more information, download offers and enter prize draws.
Over the summer we ran a Family Fun campaign – Parents Survival to Lancashire – an annual campaign which is always very popular with families during the school holidays and once again brought many new visitors to the site. The current Halloween campaign on visitlancashire.com is already in our ‘Top Ten’ most viewed pages along with Bonfire Night, promoting some of the great events taking place across the season.
Soon the site will be getting ready and geared up for Christmas which last year attracted nearly 112,000 page views during one month – this year we are of course hoping for it to be even bigger and better!
2012 – a BIG year for Lancashire
Next year – 2012 - is going to be a big year for Lancashire with many major events taking place. Here in Lancashire we will be hosting and celebrating the Open Championship 2012 at Royal Lytham & St Anne’s Golf Club, The Preston Guild and the 400th Anniversary of the Lancashire Witch Trials .
visitlancashire.com/open2012 went live in July 2011 and is already attracting golf enthusiasts to Lancashire ,providing them with all of the information they need during their visit including an online accommodation booking facility. These major events will influence our marketing campaigns throughout 2012, allowing visitlancashire.com to become the site all visitors come to for information about the celebrations and more.
