Case study 1

Cobble Hey Farm and Garden Information Centre, nr Garstang
This project involved the introduction of an education/information centre within a children's play area and animal viewing pens at Cobble Hey Farm and Gardens. This information centre is used by different community groups and visitors including Wyre Countryside Rangers and the RSPB. This centre also provides facilities to market other attractions and tourism businesses in the area. LRTi provided this project with a grant of £2,905 towards the total cost of £9685.

Case Study 2

Stocks Reservoir, Forest of Bowland, AONB
LRTi was able to support this purchase of ten new fishing boats at Stocks Reservoir which are suitable for the disabled, less able and elderly anglers (they are wide enough to accommodate a wheel chair and able bodied carriers). The boats are also suitable for accompanied junior fishers. The total cost of the project was £19300 of which LRTi was able to give £5790.

Case Study 3

Bowland Wild Boar Park, nr Chipping
This project consisted of improving access to the attraction via a new car park and the development of a woodland track for visitors. This has enabled better access for visitors with disabilities and increased visitor capacity within the attraction. This has also resulted in a new marketing initiative being created in collaboration with nearby attraction Browsholme Hall. LRTi contributed £39,906 towards this project which cost in total over £133,000.

Case Study 4

Ribble Valley Food Trail
This newly developed food trail brought together the best mix of food producers, retailers and restaurateurs in the Ribble Valley to showcase the area as a food tourism destination. The project included research, the design and production of leaftet (available to download), new website and related PR/marketing. LRTi contributed £5000 towards the total costs of £15,000.

Case Study 5

Pathways - Garstang Walking Festival
During 2005 Wyre Borough Council held their second walking festival in the Garstang area consisting of approximately 20 walks led by countryside rangers and experts from the local community. This event attracted visitors and participants from across the Wyre district and beyond. LRTi was able to provide a grant of £1200 towards the event. This festival is held annual during May.

Case Study 6

Wray Scarecrow Festival
At the time of application the giant scarecrows produced as part of the annual Wray Scarecrow Festival were up to six years old and required re-building. The project included the stripping, re-building and re-clothing of the scarecrows so that the village could maintain the high level of support from visitors to the festival. LRTI contributed £600 as part of the £2000 project.
