Blackpool Finalist for National Award

21st February 2009

The Beach House, five star self catering apartments in Blackpool, owned by Darren and Estelle Livesey, has beaten strong competition to get through to the finals of the tourism equivalents of ‘The Oscars’; the annually held Enjoy England Awards for Excellence, organized by Visit Britain which will be held  in York on St.George’s Day, April 23rd.

This year the Northwest has the highest number of nominees in the finals, further confirmation of the strength of the region’s tourism offer and Lancashire and Blackpool’s increasing appeal to a wide range of discerning visitors, who are looking to holiday closer to home.

Mike Wilkinson, Chief Executive of Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist commented  “The Beach House provides self-catering accommodation of the highest quality and as a previous winner of a Lancashire and Blackpool Tourism Award* we’re delighted Darren and Estelle’s experience and business flair is now being recognised in these most prestigious of national tourism awards. ”

The Beach House’s apartments on Blackpool’s seafront, are furnished with style, equipped with the latest kitchen appliances and technology, including DVD and free wireless connection. Previous guests have acclaimed it “By far the best in the UK”, “Best for business travel” and, from visitors as far away as Australia, simply “Beach House Bliss”**.

Estelle Livesey commenting on their nomination said “ Darren and I couldn’t quite believe it when we received the notification but now it has sunk in we’re extremely proud. Since winning the LBTB award, then the Northwest award we’ve been incredibly busy, with the phone ringing constantly. We’re very grateful for the support we’ve received from LBTB and Visit Britain and look forward to the finals in York. To get this far is a great personal achievement and we’re just thrilled.”

Of the seven Northwest shortlisted nominees Felicity Goodey, Chair of Tourism England’s Northwest said:

“These national finalists join our rapidly growing band of past winners. They are leading the way in establishing England’s Northwest as a major visitor destination which continues to attract good business even in the present economic climate.”
